St Albans Cathedral

Lovely atmosphere, good sound at a concert, helpful staff. Visited January so, as expected, a bit cold but not too bad 👍

Went to St Albans Cathedral to see The Moon installation inside the Naive of the Cathedral. On arrival I was pointed in the direction where the moon was and told that a guided tour of the Cathedral would start within 20 minutes should I like to join. I decided to join the tour. We were a small group of four lead by our guide Marc. I would highly recommend this tour. Marc was brilliant, very informative, spoke very clearly and was happy to answer any of our questions. The entrance to the Cathedral and the tour were both free with the option to donate should you want to. I was happy to donate £10 to the Cathedral, because it was worth every penny.

Beautiful Cathedral, fantastic exhibition on the history of the cathedral, lots of interactive / hands-on activities for children. Moon exhibit was there, which made the Cathedral truly magical. Was slightly disappointed that so many dogs were allowed into the Nave (full access of Cathedral), one person had four dogs, with them straight out of the park. Others were carrying small dogs or had one or two dogs. All were on leads, but none appeared to be assistance dogs. This could make some people uncomfortable.

Massive cathedral...I wanted to see the moon inside that's why I went here but I was really impressed about the size and how beautiful this cathedral is. There was nearly nobody inside , I went on a Tuesday, but on the weekends it is very busy, and maybe more because of the Moon...I think they will keep the moon inside until middle of February and then it will be taken in another place Anyway, just great.

A Magical Experience at St Albans Cathedral Visiting St Albans Cathedral is always a treat, but my recent visit was nothing short of extraordinary. Currently, the Cathedral is hosting the “Museum of the Moon” exhibition by renowned artist Luke Jerram, and it is absolutely breathtaking. The detailed, illuminated moon sculpture hanging in the heart of the Cathedral is mesmerizing. Seeing it in this stunning, historic setting made the experience feel both otherworldly and deeply spiritual. The interplay of light, shadow, and the grand architecture enhances the artwork beautifully, creating an atmosphere of wonder and reflection. Beyond the exhibition, the Cathedral itself is a treasure. Its rich history, magnificent stained glass, and serene ambiance make it one of the most awe-inspiring places in the UK. The staff and volunteers are warm, knowledgeable, and eager to share the story of this remarkable place. Whether you’re coming for the art, the history, or simply a moment of peace, St Albans Cathedral is a must-visit. If you can, catch Luke Jerram’s “Museum of the Moon” before it moves on—it’s a magical experience you won’t forget.

Beautiful Cathedral with so much detail carved into the stone as well as stained-glass windows, architectural features and an ambience that captures the history and location, well worth a visit if you are anywhere near by. Highly reccomend it as a day out, leave at least a couple of hours to tour through and there is also a nice cafe Inside to take a break.

The Moon Exhibit was truly awe inspiring. The Cathedral as a building alone is uncannily suited for such a dramatic showing.
